In line with its sustainable growth strategy and seeking higher levels of competitiveness and connectivity, Grupo Nutresa announces the construction of a new multi-category production plant in the Tayrona Free Trade Zone in the city of Santa Marta, aimed at strengthening the growth of the businesses that make up the Organization.
Thanks to its location, logistics and transportation services will be significantly easier, making it possible to serve each of the markets in its strategic region more efficiently, including Central America and the Caribbean, South America and the United States.
Carlos Ignacio Gallego, president of Grupo Nutresa, said: "This decision to build a new plant in Colombia shows the confidence we have in the country's future." He added: "It also proves that it is possible to carry out projects that create economic, social and environmental development at the same time, within a framework that makes it possible to take advantage of existing free trade agreements and under a regulatory framework that promotes investment and the development of private activity."
With an investment of approximately US$133 million, the new plant aims to create around 400 new direct jobs. It will certainly become a major hub of development for the department of Magdalena and Colombia's northern coast.
Regarding the decision to build this new plant, Gallego praised the joint work with the public sector: "We highlight and greatly appreciate the support we have received to start this project from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism, the Department of Magdalena and, especially, the city of Santa Marta. We hope our presence in the region translates into progress for the city and its communities."
The new facilities will meet the highest standards of sustainability and productivity, allowing Grupo Nutresa to contribute not only to its business goals but also to its purpose of building a better world where development is for everyone.
The project is currently in the land preparation stage, prior to the start of civil works. The plant is expected to begin operating at the end of 2021.
